What this compendium is, how it's made, and who makes it.
Every Art Style is a catalogue of named art styles — movements, traditions, techniques, aesthetics, and genres — each with its sources. An entry earns its place only if its name is citable: at least one published source uses that name for a recognizable style. Rejected and queued names are recorded too, so the rule stays honest.
Each entry carries its facets (kind, era, region, medium), its sources, and where possible an example image — always public domain or free-licensed (CC), with the credit and license shown on the entry and listed on the credits page.
The compendium is written and maintained as structured data; the pages you read are generated from it. That keeps entries consistent, citations checkable, and the catalog browsable at any size — it is built to grow toward every named style that passes the citable test.
A one-person project, built and maintained in Australia.
Found an error, a missing style, or a broken image? The feedback form reaches a human. Entries can always be corrected, expanded, or removed — citations and all.
